Which Raíces Coffee Fits Your Brew Method?
The same coffee can taste completely different depending on how you brew it. Some coffees shine under the pressure of an espresso machine. Others open up in a slow pour over. Here’s how to match our new lineup to the way you make coffee at home.
A quick note on ratios: 1:15 means 1 gram of coffee for every 15 grams of water. For example, 20 grams of coffee and 300 grams of water. A kitchen scale makes all the difference.
Espresso
Our pick: Copán. Espresso is its natural home. Dark chocolate, caramel and walnut in a bold, intense shot. Ratio 1:2, 25 to 28 seconds.
Also great: El Trueno. Naturally sweet, with dense crema and notes of honey and citrus. Ratio 1:2, 27 to 30 seconds.
Lattes and milk drinks
Our pick: San Fernando. Its coconut cream and brown sugar notes bloom under milk. A San Fernando latte tastes almost tropical. Pull it at 1:2 in 25 to 28 seconds.
Pour over
Our pick: Nacimiento. Strawberry and red fruits with clarity and brightness. Water at 198°F, ratio 1:15.
Also great:
- El Trueno: floral and sweet. 200°F, 1:15.
- Gracias: clean cacao and peach. 200°F, 1:15.
- San Fernando: mango and coconut. 196°F, 1:16.
- Finca Alicia: red fruits, grape and floral. 196°F, 1:15.
French press
Our pick: Copán. Full-bodied and robust, with chocolate and walnut at their deepest. Ratio 1:14, 4 minutes.
Also great: El Trueno. Full body with natural sweetness and a clean finish. Ratio 1:15, 4 minutes.
AeroPress
Our pick: Nacimiento. Creamy body, with caramel and red fruits coming together. Ratio 1:12, 60-second steep.
Drip and auto drip
Our pick: Gracias. The most versatile coffee we carry. Consistent, smooth, and full of character for everyday brewing. Ratio 1:15.
Cold brew
Our pick: Copán. Chocolate and caramel with almost no acidity. Ratio 1:5, steep 14 to 16 hours. Dilute the concentrate with water or milk to taste.
For something special: Finca Alicia. Red fruits and grape concentrate into a naturally sweet cup with a floral finish. Ratio 1:5, 12 to 14 hours at room temperature. Serve over ice.
